Philosophy on teacher licensing:

"Licensing provides credibility and public recognition of a profession that for so long has not been recognized as "professional." Licensing says that the license is professionally fit, adheres to a professional code of ethics and believes in a set of core values that includes rigorous professional standards regarding what the licensee should know, be able to do and care about."

Goals as an HTSB Board member:

"As an advocate for teacher quality, my goal as an HTSB member is to share my knowledge, attitude and values for public education to support a profession that is recognized for its commitment and dedication to the children of Hawaii."

The Hawaii Teacher Standards Board was created to improve the quality of the teaching profession by ensuring that teachers hired in the State of Hawaii are fully licensed and qualified to teach in the subject area(s) in which they were hired.
