Philosophy on teacher licensing:

"Hawaii's public school children deserve to be taught by highly qualified professionals. Helping teacher gain licensing while maintaining high standards is our highest priority. Teacher standards are critical to assure the public that qualified ethical teachers are employed in our public schools. It is the responsibility of the HTSB to assure this happens."

Goals as an HTSB Board member:

"To address the teacher shortage while maintaining high standards

To facilitate issuing and renewing of teacher licenses for all Hawaii public school teachers

To advocate for teacher quality among teacher preparations institutions as well as among parents, administrators, and the general public."

The Hawaii Teacher Standards Board was created to improve the quality of the teaching profession by ensuring that teachers hired in the State of Hawaii are fully licensed and qualified to teach in the subject area(s) in which they were hired.
