Philosophy on teacher licensing:
I am passionate to see my profession viewed with high esteem and deemed of high quality. I believe every word of the HTSB's vision, especially "rigorous professional teacher standards" and "student success."
Goals as an HTSB Board member:
- To promote student success by licensing high caliber teachers;
- To continue the conversations and maintain relevance of the rules and procedures for licensing and re-licensing of teachers;
- To gain knowledge and commit to public awareness of the Board's standards. Just as we hold educators accountable for their profession, I believe the public needs to be accountable for its role with our children, too. My message for our new teachers is that teaching success has a lot to do with commitment, attitude and perseverance. Educators must understand their role and responsibility for their students' achievement in the classroom while also communicating with parents and being in touch with the community.
- To increase teachers' awareness of what they can accomplish and how; and
- To promote a "can do" attitude!
