An additional teaching field may be granted to an applicant holding a Hawaii Standard or Advanced license using one of the following methods:
1. Applicants who submit verification of:
- Completion of a State Approved Teacher Education Program; and
- Professional Fitness clearance.
- Payment of license fees.
2. Applicants who submit verification of:
- Completion of eighteen hours* of coursework from a State Approved Teacher Education Program, twelve of which must be from upper or graduate level; and
- Two (2) years of satisfactory contracted K-12 teaching experience in the new field within the last five (5) years of added field application date. The total experience taught must be equivalent to at least one year of full-time teaching in the new field.
- Professional Fitness clearance.
- Payment of license fees.
*NOTE: Applicants should periodically check our website for changes in the number of required hours of coursework for this method.
3. Applicants who submit verification of:
- Passing scores for Hawaii licensure tests for the subject assessment in the new teaching field; and
- Complete two (2) years of satisfactory contracted K-12 teaching experience in the new field within the last five (5) years of added field application date. The total experience taught must be equivalent to at least one year of full-time teaching in the new field.
- Professional Fitness clearance.
- Payment of license fees.
