HTSB cannot complete the processing of your license application until you meet all of the following minimum requirements:
1. Possess a current, valid Standard License from Hawaii or its equivalent in another state.
2. Possess a current, valid National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification;

Possess a master's, specialist or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in an area relevant to the teaching field for which a license is sought or a field that improves the practice of teaching. You may not use a degree that was used to obtain a Standard License to also obtain an Advanced License.
3. Five (5) years of satisfactory full-time teaching experience completed within eight (8) years of application in the state which issued your Standard License .
4. Meet the Professional Fitness requirements listed on the application, Section Two.
5. Pay your license fees.
The effective date of your license will be the date when you meet all requirements. Please periodically check our website for any revisions to licensing requirements and watch for announcements about the launch of the online licensing system.
