Standard X: Fosters Parent and School Community Relationships


STANDARD STATEMENT X: The effective school counselor establishes and maintains strong working relationships with parents and members of the school community to support student learning and development.

Performance Criteria for Standard X: The extent to which the school counselor:

  1. Collaborates with parents and school community members to support student learning and development.

  2. Consistently seeks opportunities to build strong partnerships with parents and school community members.

  3. Supports activities and programs which encourage parents and the school community to participate actively in school-related organizations and activities.

  4. Establishes open and active lines of communication with parents and the school community.

  5. Utilizes parent and school community resources to enhance student learning and development.

  6. Provides consultation to parents and the school community on information and skills to assist them in helping students in academic, career, and personal/social development.

  7. Changes in Licensing Standards:
    1. §8-54-10 (1) satisfactorily completed a State-approved school counselor program that shows the applicant is likely to satisfy the performance standards.

    2. School counselor preparation programs should include school-based classroom experience.
