Standard VI: Designs and Provides Meaningful Learning Experiences


STANDARD STATEMENT VI: The effective school counselor consistently plans and implements meaningful counseling and guidance experiences for students.

Performance Criteria for Standard VI: The extent to which the school counselor:

  1. Plans, coordinates, and implements a counseling and guidance program and continually adjusts plans based on student needs.

  2. Provides experiences and materials that are developmentally appropriate and based on desired student outcomes and effective counseling and guidance.

  3. Incorporates appropriate assessment strategies as an integral part of the counseling and guidance program planning.

  4. Links concepts and key ideas to students’ prior experiences and understandings, using multiple representations, examples and explanations.

  5. Applies concepts that help students relate learning to everyday life.

  6. Provides integrated learning experiences that enhance students’ social, emotional and behavioral resources.

  7. Provides knowledge and experiences that help students make life and career decisions
