Standard IX: Demonstrates Professionalism

STANDARD STATEMENT IX: The effective school counselor continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions and actively seeks opportunities to grow professionally.

Performance Criteria for Standard IX: The extent to which the school counselor:

1. Engages in opportunities to grow professionally.


2. Provides and accepts feedback in a professional manner.


3. Models honesty, fairness and respect for individuals and for the laws of society.


4. Demonstrates good work habits including reliability, punctuality, and follow-through on commitments.


5. Maintains current knowledge of issues and trends in education.


6. Practices effective listening, conflict resolution and group-facilitation skills as a team member.


7. Adopts and conforms to a set of professional ethics to guide his/her practice.


8. Works collaboratively with other professionals.


9. Participates actively and responsibly in school activities.


10. Conducts a self-evaluation to determine strengths and areas needed for improvement.
