Teachers with valid, professional out of state licenses

Teachers who currently hold a valid un-revoked license from another state may be able to use that license to earn their Hawaii teaching license. Under a law containing provisions recommended by our Board and passed during the last legislative session, the Board may now issue licenses to teachers who meet the criteria spelled out in the law.

To qualify, a teacher must provide documentation of all of the following:

A valid, un-revoked professional (not provisional or temporary) license from another state; and

Completion of a State-Approved Teacher Education Program; and

Passed all licensing tests required by the State which issued the valid license; and

Passed tests for content knowledge, basic skills, and pedagogy. Note:  For any tests not required and taken for the out-of-state license, the teacher must pass the required Hawaii Praxis tests and will be issued a license based on the date when these required tests are passed and application and required documentation submitted.
