NBPTS Information Sessions Being Conducted (May 8, 2009). Teachers interested in pursuing national board certification are encouraged to attend an informational session in their district/island. The sessions will provide background and knowledge about the process, subsidies, support groups, and more. Continuing to Promote Teaching Excellence (March 2, 2009). The Hawaii Teacher Standards Board responds to a report by the Hawaii State Auditor, released on March 2, 2009. License Extension procedures for licenses expiring through September 2009 (February 17, 2009). Currently, teachers who have not yet registered to extend their license are not penalized for NCLB purposes, but they must complete and submit the Application for Extended Hawaii Teaching License found on the HTSB Web site. (click on words for link). After the applications are reviewed and approved, applicants will receive their updated license. This application process applies to any teacher whose license expires through September 2009. License renewal procedures soon to move forward (February 16, 2009). License renewal procedures are one step closer to finalization now that the pilot project has ended. Teachers applied to be in the pilot and were selected to reflect the broad spectrum of teachers by: license fields, grade levels, geographic location, years of teaching, experience, and gender. read more Change in law may impact teachers with out of state licenses (July 24, 2007): Teachers who currently hold a valid un-revoked license from another state may be able to use that license to earn their Hawaii teaching license. Under a law containing provisions recommended by our Board and passed during the last legislative session, the Board may now issue licenses to teachers who meet the criteria spelled out in the law. read more
